Kensington Palace Highlights Prince’s Advocacy Against Homelessness
Prince William was deeply touched by heartfelt conversations during a solo
visit to Newport, Wales, as part of his five-year plan to end homelessness.
A day after attending a glamorous Buckingham Palace dinner with diplomats, the
Prince of Wales shifted focus to an emotional engagement where he met with
resilient women who shared their personal experiences of homelessness.
Among those he connected with was Sabrina Cohen-Hatton, a fire chief and
advocate who overcame homelessness as a teenager. Cohen-Hatton introduced
William to several women who spoke with him privately about their journeys.
“It was a really meaningful visit,” Cohen-Hatton told People Magazine. “He was
quite moved.”
In a video clip released by Kensington Palace, William is seen ensuring all
key stakeholders were present at the discussion, encouraging attendees to
identify anyone missing who could contribute to the cause.
“Proud to be working with @HomewardsUK Advocate @dr_sab_cohenhatton,”
William’s statement read. “Her experience of homelessness here in Newport and
her advocacy on the issue is helping us make a real difference across our six
locations.”
The Prince highlighted the importance of addressing women’s homelessness
specifically, adding, “Today we saw how focusing support on women’s
homelessness will not only help the women affected but also provide learnings
that can be implemented across Newport and beyond.”
Cohen-Hatton praised William’s empathy and engagement, noting that his
presence had a profound impact on the women he met. “They were nervous
beforehand, but what a life experience for them to meet the prince, who’s
genuinely interested in hearing their stories,” she said.
The visit underscored the Prince’s dedication to humanising the issue of
homelessness and advocating for tailored solutions to support vulnerable
communities.
