The royal family has issued its first public statement about Windsor Castle
following a recent security breach that saw two masked intruders enter the
property. The incident occurred while Prince William, Princess Kate, and their
children were asleep nearby, raising significant safety concerns.
In a move to shift the focus to Windsor Castle’s historical significance,
Buckingham Palace released a video on the royal family’s official Instagram
account, offering an exclusive look inside the castle’s iconic Round Tower.
Accompanying the video, the Palace posed the question: “Have you ever wondered
what is inside the iconic Round Tower at Windsor Castle?”
The video revealed that the tower houses the Royal Archives, described as a
“unique collection of documents relating to the history of the British
Monarchy over the last 250 years.”
Highlighting the treasures within, the video showcased items ranging from
letters and diaries to significant historical documents. The archives are part
of an initiative for #ExploreYourArchive Week, aimed at making such treasures
accessible to the public.
The Palace noted, “Each year, we share items from the Royal Archives as part
of the UK-wide initiative #ExploreYourArchive Week. This year’s themes include

While the update refrained from addressing the security incident directly, the
