Palace Shares Touching Video of Sophie Volunteering at Charity Event
The Royal Family has highlighted Duchess Sophie of Edinburgh’s inspiring work
as she volunteered at a Woking charity in the lead-up to Christmas, stepping
into the spotlight amid Princess Kate’s absence from a royal event.
On December 18, Sophie spent the day at The Lighthouse, a charity that
supports around 8,000 people annually with essentials like food, clothing, and
wellbeing services. The Duchess, who has been a patron of the organisation for
years, actively participated in its wide-ranging community projects.
The Palace shared details of her visit on social media, writing: “The Duchess
of Edinburgh, as Patron, spent a day volunteering with the charity, which
supports around 8,000 people each year with essentials like food and clothing,
as well as wellbeing groups.”
Sophie’s activities included serving hot meals, assisting at the hygiene bank,
crafting with Ukrainian refugees, and engaging with local families—showcasing
her hands-on approach and dedication to the cause.
Rebecca Jespersen, co-founder of The Lighthouse, praised Sophie’s involvement,
saying: “We are so grateful to Her Royal Highness for her continued
inspirational support.”
The Duchess’s gesture not only highlighted the vital impact of The Lighthouse
but also reinforced her ongoing commitment to uplifting local communities
during the festive season.
