Duchess of Sussex divides opinion with latest gesture amid royal
comparisons
Meghan Markle’s latest Instagram video has sparked mixed reactions, with some
royal fans accusing her of “making it all about herself” just days after
Princess Kate’s widely praised public engagement.
The Duchess of Sussex shared an emotional clip documenting her effort to
replace a prized Billie Eilish T-shirt lost in the devastating Los Angeles
wildfires. Meghan explained how she reached out to contacts in the music
industry to secure a signed replacement for a teenager whose home had been
reduced to ashes.
“I don’t know Billie Eilish, but I thought, ‘I’m going to figure out how to
get you this shirt,’” Meghan shared in the video, recalling her determined
plea to connect with the singer.
While some fans applauded her compassion, others criticized the move as
“tone-deaf” and self-promotional. A social media user on X reshared the video
with the caption: “Meghan Markle making it all about herself… someone’s lost
their home, and she’s gushing about how amazing she is for getting them some
signed merch.”
Another critic wrote: “She’s egotistical, self-absorbed, and makes everything
about #MeMe.”
Meanwhile, Princess Kate’s recent initiative at the National Portrait Gallery
received overwhelming praise. Her message about The Centre for Early
Childhood’s Shaping Us Framework was hailed as “genuine and impactful”, with
one supporter commenting, “Love you, my beautiful princess.”
As comparisons between the two royal women continue, Meghan’s latest video has
once again reignited debate over her public image and approach to
philanthropy.
