Kate and William Help Windsor Castle Top Buckingham Palace in Visitor Numbers

Royal family’s changing presence drives shift in public interest

Windsor Castle has officially overtaken Buckingham Palace as the most-visited royal residence, thanks in part to the popularity of Princess Catherine and Prince William.

According to the latest figures from the Royal Collection Trust, Windsor Castle drew an impressive 1,367,000 visitors during the 2024–2025 period—more than double the 683,000 who toured Buckingham Palace. The report, cited by The Mirror, highlights a growing shift in public attention toward the historic Berkshire residence.

The popularity surge is partly credited to the proximity of the Prince and Princess of Wales, who live nearby with their children. Their presence continues to draw royal watchers and tourists eager for a closer glimpse into modern royal life.

Windsor Castle also benefits from year-round public access, unlike Buckingham Palace, which closes at intervals throughout the year. Additionally, King Charles has opted to spend more time at Windsor, further enhancing the site’s profile. The castle was also a favourite of the late Queen Elizabeth II, adding sentimental significance for many visitors.

The trend reflects not just shifting royal routines, but also evolving public interest—where the presence of William, Catherine, and their family continues to shape the monarchy’s modern-day appeal.
