Prince William and Catherine Set Key Condition for Children Ahead of Possible Royal Move

Wales family considers major change—but children’s wellbeing remains top priority

Prince William and Catherine are reportedly weighing a significant change for their growing family, as talk of relocating to a larger royal residence gathers momentum. With Prince George recently turning 12 and gradually stepping into his future royal role, the couple is said to be assessing whether their current home still suits their evolving needs.

According to Mail on Sunday, the Wales family has “outgrown” Adelaide Cottage—their modest four-bedroom residence on the Windsor estate. While no official decision has been announced, one potential new home reportedly under consideration is Fort Belvedere, an 18th-century estate with eight bedrooms, sprawling gardens, a lake, swimming pool, and even tennis courts.

However, royal expert Jennie Bond believes that any move will come with a non-negotiable condition: the children’s comfort and sense of normalcy must come first.

“William and Catherine have worked hard to give their children as ‘normal’ an upbringing as possible,” Bond told The Mirror. “It’s difficult to imagine them moving to what is essentially a castle—no matter how appealing it may look on paper.”

For the royal couple, preserving a relaxed and grounded family atmosphere has always been central. Bond noted that the current cottage leaves little space for guests or sleepovers, which can be limiting for a modern family of five. Even so, she stressed that the couple will only proceed with a move if it aligns with what’s best for their children.

Whether or not the relocation goes ahead, it’s clear that Prince William and Catherine remain firmly focused on balancing royal duty with family wellbeing—especially as their children begin to step into more prominent roles within the royal fold.
