Prince William and Catherine Prepare for Greater Role Amid King Charles’ Health Battle

Monarch’s upcoming message may signal major changes for the royal family’s future

William and Catherine are said to be accelerating preparations for their eventual roles as king and queen, with growing expectations that they may need to take on expanded duties sooner than planned.

A royal biographer suggests the couple could find themselves leading the monarchy earlier than anticipated as King Charles, 76, continues his cancer treatment. While the King remains committed to his work, health-related limitations have shifted more responsibility onto William’s shoulders.

“There’s a sense of calm before the storm,” commentator Sally Bedell Smith noted, adding that both William and Catherine have been making early adjustments for the transition.

A source told The News that the King’s health crisis increases the likelihood of William’s premature accession, describing the monarchy as being on the brink of significant change. “They are aware of the shifting landscape and the challenges ahead,” the insider said.

Charles, crowned alongside Queen Camilla in May 2023, revealed in February 2024 that he had been diagnosed with an undisclosed cancer following treatment for benign prostate enlargement.

While Catherine’s own health has remained a priority in recent months, the couple is said to be using this time to reassess their priorities and focus on what matters most before the “biggest job of their lives” becomes reality.
