Duchess admits her roast chicken was “truly terrible” during their cosy
engagement evening
Meghan Markle has shared a candid memory about the night Harry proposed,
admitting that things didn’t go quite as smoothly as planned.
In season two of her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, which premiered on
August 26, the Duchess of Sussex, 44, revealed that her usually reliable roast
chicken recipe turned out badly on the special night.
“This is a by-heart recipe. It’s a classic and nourishing, and I’ve done it so
many times that I can do it with my eyes closed,” she explained to guest chef
Samin Nosrat. “I roasted a chicken the night my husband proposed to me… I
made a horrible chicken that night. I mean, truly, truly terrible.”
Even so, Meghan said the effort mattered more than the result. “The point is,
you can make a terrible chicken, and someone is still going to appreciate the
thought,” she added.
Harry and Meghan, now parents to Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4, got engaged in
November 2017 after just over a year of dating. In their engagement interview
at the time, they described the proposal as a “cosy night” at Nottingham
Cottage while they were “trying to roast” a chicken together.
Looking back in their 2022 Netflix docuseries Harry & Meghan, Harry joked
that opening champagne while Meghan was cooking “kind of gave the game away.”
