Bold comments about royal life raise questions about Netflix deal
Meghan Markle has sparked controversy once again after opening up about her time as a working royal, with some suggesting her remarks could put her lucrative Netflix deal at risk.
Speaking on Bloomberg’s show The Circuit with Emily Chang, Meghan reflected on the restrictions she faced as a senior royal, even recalling a rule that required women to wear pantyhose. She admitted, “It was different several years ago, where I couldn’t be as vocal… That felt a little bit inauthentic.”
Her comments drew swift reaction from royal watchers. Expert Kinsey Schofield told Fox News that Netflix may be frustrated with Meghan for giving such a personal interview outside their platform. “Meghan’s pity parties sell, and if I were Netflix, I would be angry that a far more personal interview was released the same day as her streaming programme, where we hardly get any insight into Meghan’s private life with Harry,” she said.
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams added that Meghan’s choice of words seemed deliberate, pointing out that any mention of her past as a senior royal guarantees international coverage.
