Monarch turns his attention to the castle gardens while sharing a cheeky word at Chelsea
King Charles is setting his sights on a fresh project that reflects his lifelong love of gardening. At 76, the monarch wants to redesign the gardens at Windsor Castle, aiming to make them stand out when viewed from above.
In recent years, royal estates have gradually opened more of their green spaces to the public, allowing visitors a rare chance to enjoy the beauty once reserved for the palace. According to royal biographer Robert Hardman, the King is paying close attention to how the Windsor gardens will appear from the air. The hope is that tourists flying into Heathrow may be tempted to visit in person after catching a glimpse from the sky.
The initiative is expected to capture the interest of millions of travellers passing overhead each year.
The Kingโs horticultural focus also made headlines at this yearโs Chelsea Flower Show, where he had a light-hearted exchange with Jamie Butterworth, a 30-year-old rising star of Gardenersโ World. Butterworth, whose nursery supplies plants to Windsor Castle, later recalled the playful moment with his royal client. A gold medal winner at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, he has quickly become one of the most recognisable young names in British gardening.
