Inside Prince William and Catherine’s Romantic Reunion Dinner

Former royal butler recalls the moment their relationship truly changed

Prince William and Catherine’s love story wasn’t always smooth sailing, but their brief split in 2007 only seemed to strengthen their bond.

The Prince and Princess of Wales rekindled their relationship a few months later, and according to former royal butler Grant Harrold, it quickly became clear they were meant to be together.

Harrold, who worked for Queen Elizabeth and King Charles between 2004 and 2011, shared his memories while promoting his upcoming book The Royal Butler at Rubens Hotel. He recalled serving at a private Valentine’s Day dinner in 2008 that William organised for Catherine at his country home, Highgrove House.

“It was just the two of them. It was really nice, quite special actually,” Harrold told People magazine. He noted that “something changed” after the couple reconciled.

“Before, they weren’t really holding hands — it was more like William’s friend. After that, it was absolutely different. You knew they were a couple, and from then on it was just a waiting game,” he explained.

Harrold added that after seeing their bond renewed, he was certain marriage was inevitable. His instinct was right: just a few years later, William and Catherine married in a grand ceremony in 2011, eventually welcoming their three children.
