King Charles’ wife faces the spotlight following disclosure about her past
Queen Camilla is stepping back into the public eye for the first time since a deeply personal revelation about her past came to light. The Queen Consort will be in Cornwall today, September 2, carrying out a series of engagements that highlight her long-standing patronages.
Her itinerary includes a visit to ShelterBox, an international disaster relief charity, where she will mark its twenty-fifth anniversary. At the organisation’s headquarters, the 78-year-old royal is expected to meet with staff and volunteers who have dedicated their efforts to helping communities in crisis.
This public appearance comes in the wake of revelations made in Valentine Low’s book Power and the Palace: The Inside Story of the Monarchy and 10 Downing Street. In it, Camilla shared that she was sexually assaulted as a teenager while travelling by train. She later recounted the disturbing incident in conversation with then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson. According to Guto Harri, Johnson’s former communications director, Camilla revealed that she fought back by using her shoe to fend off her attacker.
An insider told The Mail that Camilla hopes her openness might serve a wider purpose: “If reading about her own experience helps other women, then in the circumstances she would consider that a positive outcome.”
Today’s engagements not only highlight her commitment to charitable causes but also show her determination to carry on with resilience and dignity in the face of painful memories.
