Duchess of Sussex shares simple tips for building children’s confidence as
they head back to school
Meghan Markle, who raises two children with Harry, has shared advice for
parents including William and Catherine as they prepare their children for the
new school year. The Duchess of Sussex believes that small gestures can give
young people a much-needed confidence boost.
She encouraged parents to slip handwritten notes into lunchboxes, whether it’s
a short poem, a joke, or a reminder of how much they are loved. “That
validation from a parent when they’re going back into school may be just the
boost your child needs, whether in pre-K or as a teen,” Meghan said.
According to her, even tiny surprises can brighten a child’s day. “Try a
little pack of stickers, a funny photo, or a trinket like something you’d find
in a Cracker Jack box. It doesn’t have to cost much. Love is in the details.”
Meghan also mentioned that her children enjoy swapping the usual sandwich for
“breakfast at lunchtime.” She suggested parents could pack pancakes or
waffles, eggs, bacon, and jam for a fun change. “If there’s no time, just the
novelty of breakfast for lunch can sometimes be a welcome win,” she said,
adding that a sprinkle of decorations or fun touches can make meals special.
The Duchess also urged families to create small rituals after school as a way
of reconnecting.
Her parenting advice comes as George begins his final year at Lambrook School.
The young royal will move on to secondary education in 2026, with Eton College
expected to be his next step, following the tradition set by both his father
and uncle.
