The Duchess of Sussex Faces Another Setback as Netflix Show Struggles
Meghan Markle was reportedly left frustrated after Taylor Swift and Travis
Kelce announced their engagement just hours after the release of her Netflix
series’ second season. The Duchess is said to have considered the timing a
deliberate blow, feeling that her project was once again eclipsed by the
superstar’s spotlight.
On Tuesday, August 26, Meghan launched the new season of With Love, Meghan.
But her moment was quickly undercut when Swift revealed that she and Kelce
were “getting married.” According to a royal insider, Meghan believes major
announcements always seem to land on her big days, and she suspects a pattern.
The insider even claimed that Meghan was compelled to “like” Swift’s
engagement post on Instagram, though privately she was “seething.” A friend
added that Meghan remains determined, insisting she “won’t be pushed out of
Hollywood.”
Still, her show faces uncertain prospects. Despite the fanfare of its release,
the second season failed to make Netflix’s top ten list. The lukewarm
reception has fuelled speculation that the series will not be renewed for a
third run.
Speaking to Newsweek, Eric Schiffer, chairman of Reputation Management
Consultants, noted: “When a royal brand can’t crack the board, it’s likely an
obituary for season 3. Even with Chrissy Teigen and Tan France glitter-bombing
the set, the series hit the pavement. Given that it’s missed by a mile, where
even hate watchers stayed home, Season 3 is unlikely.”
Meghan, 44, celebrated the second season only months after the first, but the
rapid follow-up and underwhelming audience response may have worked against
her. As speculation mounts, her Hollywood ambitions now face a difficult road
ahead.
