Kate Middleton takes on key role from King Charles III amid family tensions

Princess of Wales to play prominent part in US state visit as ties strain
between King and Prince William

Kate Middleton has been handed an important mission by King Charles III as his
relationship with Prince William shows signs of strain.

The royal family is preparing to host Donald Trump and Melania Trump on a
state visit beginning Tuesday. The couple will stay at Windsor Castle, with
the Prince of Wales and Princess of Wales set to welcome them on Wednesday and
formally introduce them to the King and Queen Camilla.

In addition to the ceremonial welcome, Kate has been given a specific role
aimed at strengthening UK–US ties. After Wednesday evening’s state banquet,
she will accompany Melania the following morning in the Frogmore Gardens,
where the First Lady will be shown the Scouts’ Squirrels programme.

“The President and First Lady are thrilled that the Princess of Wales will
play such a prominent role in their visit,” a source close to the Trumps told
The Mail. “Her inclusion in so many events during the state visit is an
honour.”

The insider said the Trumps had “very much hoped” Kate would be part of their
visit, though her participation was only confirmed this week due to her recent
health challenges. The Princess, who underwent cancer treatment last year, has
been slowly returning to public duties.

Her elevated role comes at a time of reported friction between William and his
father, following the King’s decision to meet Prince Harry despite William’s
objections. While Charles has shown warmth toward his younger son, William has
kept his distance.

Despite these tensions, Kate has often acted as a calming presence within the
family. Her willingness to step into this high-profile role underscores her
steady influence and the responsibilities she continues to embrace as a future
queen.
