Royal returns to horseback as family prepares for Duchess of Kent funeral
and Donald Trump visit
Princess Anne looked upbeat as she represented King Charles III at a historic
event in Scotland, while the royal family prepares for two major occasions
this week — the funeral of Katharine, Duchess of Kent and the upcoming state
visit of Donald Trump.
The monarch’s sister proudly took part in the centuries-old Riding of the
Marches in Edinburgh on Sunday, marking a return to one of her greatest
passions just a year after suffering a serious head injury at her Gatcombe
Park estate in Gloucestershire.

Dating back to 1579, the event was originally a civic duty to check the city’s
boundaries were secure, but it has since evolved into one of Scotland’s most
celebrated equestrian traditions.
Anne joined a cavalcade of over 200 riders on a 26-mile route before entering
the city centre. She then rode with the parade down the Royal Mile to the
Mercat Cross, delighting onlookers.
A skilled rider and former Olympic equestrian, the 74-year-old returned to
horseback only three months ago at Trooping the Colour. Her appearance in
Edinburgh has reassured royal watchers that she is continuing to recover well.
