The Duke of Sussex expresses sorrow following the death of Team U.S.
athlete Steve Flemming.
Prince Harry has shared a deeply emotional message after the passing of Master
Chief Hospital Corpsman Steve Flemming, a beloved member of Team U.S. at the
Invictus Games.
The Duke of Sussex, who often refers to Invictus competitors as his extended
family, was said to be heartbroken by the loss. Through his team’s statement,
Harry honoured Steve’s “strength, courage, and incredible spirit,” reflecting
the close bond he shares with participants of the Games.
Flemming, a silver medalist in wheelchair basketball at the 2025 Invictus
Games, was widely respected for his resilience and positivity. The Invictus
Games U.S. community extended condolences to his loved ones, adding, “Steve
inspired us all, and his legacy will continue to live on through this
community. Rest in peace, Steve.”
Harry founded the Invictus Games in 2014 to support wounded, injured, and sick
service members and veterans through sport and rehabilitation. His passion
project continues to grow, with the next Games set to take place in
Birmingham, UK, in July 2027.
There is growing speculation that King Charles and other senior royals may
attend the upcoming event, especially following Harry’s recent meeting with
his father at Clarence House.
