Old wedding footage reveals a touching moment between William and Andrew
before their relationship soured.
A resurfaced video from the 1986 wedding of Andrew and Sarah Ferguson has
reminded many of a time when Prince William and his uncle shared a genuine
bond. The clip shows a young William, serving as a page boy at the Westminster
Abbey ceremony, joyfully running into Andrew’s arms. The groom, dressed in his
naval uniform, bends down to embrace his nephew and kiss him on the head — a
brief but affectionate glimpse into their once-close relationship.
Decades later, that warmth seems a world away. William has stood firmly by his
father, King Charles, as Andrew’s royal status unravelled following his
connection to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. Stripped of his titles and
privileges, Andrew has faced public scrutiny and personal disgrace. The
fallout deepened after Virginia Giuffre’s allegations and her forthcoming
memoir Nobody’s Girl reignited memories of one of the royal family’s darkest
periods.
I’m watching a documentary on Andrew and Fergie, and this scene made me sad for two reasons: Prince William jumping into his uncle’s arms shows they have a close relationship, and it made me think about Harry likely never having that same closeness with his nephews and niece. pic.twitter.com/1oFtmZXHjZ

While Andrew publicly denied wrongdoing, the severity of the accusations left
little room for leniency. King Charles ultimately removed his brother’s
remaining honours and began proceedings to remove him from his Windsor
residence, the Royal Lodge. Reports suggest that William, who has long
supported his father’s stance, finds his uncle’s conduct intolerable. Author
Tina Brown even claimed the Prince of Wales “can’t abide” Andrew and wishes
for him to “disappear” from public life.
Still, sources say William’s compassion hasn’t vanished entirely. Given his
strong advocacy for mental health awareness, he has reportedly shown some
concern for his uncle’s well-being despite their fractured bond. The childhood
moment caught on camera now serves as a bittersweet reminder of a relationship
that once carried warmth — before loyalty to the Crown demanded difficult
choices.
