King Charles Ends 2025 With a Final Decision on Andrew

Monarch fulfils Andrew’s last wish while securing a future role for their daughters

2025 has been a difficult year for the royal family. It was not only the King’s health challenges but also the scandals tied to Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor that weighed heavily on the institution, overshadowing the steady work of the senior royals. Even so, the King chose to put old grievances aside long enough to reach a clear agreement with his brother.

On 30 October he confirmed that Andrew’s remaining titles and honours had been removed. Andrew will also leave Royal Lodge in the coming days, marking a permanent step away from public royal life. Yet the King drew a firm line when it came to Andrew’s daughters. He was not prepared to let them be dragged into the fallout.

According to a source quoted by the Daily Mail, the brothers agreed that protecting their daughters from negative attention was a shared priority. They believe the pair can still offer something constructive in public life, and the King has shown no sign of retreating from that position.

Recent developments made that clear. One of their daughters has been named Deputy Patron of Outward Bound and will work alongside Prince Edward, who serves as the charity’s Royal Patron. Meanwhile, The King’s Foundation published photos of the other taking part in a mentoring session for its 35 Under 35 programme, reflecting her ongoing involvement in charitable work.

The message from the palace is straightforward. Andrew’s chapter as a working royal may have closed, but the standing of their daughters remains intact.
