Move to Sandringham reportedly pushed to early next year amid growing scrutiny
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is once again facing delays over his expected exit from Royal Lodge, with commentators saying he is still struggling to accept a smaller home. Speaking on TalkTV, Emily Ferguson told presenter Mark Dolan that Andrew appears reluctant to give up the 30-room property, which has long been tied to his sense of status.
Ferguson said he has resisted the move for months and that the shift to Sandringham is now expected early next year. She added that Andrew is deeply attached to Windsor and sees leaving Royal Lodge as another personal setback, even though the Sandringham residence would still place him under King Charles’s support.
“We were told at the end of October that he would be leaving Royal Lodge,” she explained, noting that Buckingham Palace had said the move would happen as soon as possible. “But it keeps being delayed.”
According to her, many expected Andrew to leave at the start of the new year, but the timeline has drifted into February because he is finding it difficult to downsize.
Ferguson said the change of home represents a significant blow to his confidence. After losing his title, honours and formal standing, giving up such a large property adds to what she described as a humiliating period for him.
Andrew had hoped to remain in Windsor, where he enjoys the surroundings and often rides on the estate. Moving to Sandringham, she said, feels isolating because no one else lives there. Even so, he will continue to live with the backing of his brother for the foreseeable future.
