Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman share what they learned from each other while making Song Sung Blue

The co-stars reflect on their collaboration as the film picks up its first major award

Kate Hudson and Hugh Jackman are starting awards season on a strong note. The pair accepted the first Gotham Musical Tribute at the 2025 Gotham Awards for their upcoming film Song Sung Blue, which arrives on 25 December.

Speaking with People Magazine on the red carpet, they opened up about how much they gained from working together. Hudson said Jackman’s greatest strength is his ability to connect with anyone around him. She explained that he brings the same warmth and focus whether he is on set or on stage, and watching him reminded her how meaningful it is to show a real interest in others. She added with a smile that he gives out so much energy that it must be exhausting at times.

Jackman returned the praise. Although he has nearly fifty films behind him, he said he learned new things about acting for the camera while working with Hudson. He described her balance of preparation and instinct as something few can match, and said the experience made him a better actor.

He also shared that Hudson spoke up at two moments during production when she believed the film needed a different approach. Although the changes disrupted the schedule, both scenes have become important parts of the finished film. Jackman said that when someone as kind and steady as Hudson chooses to push back, everyone listens.

As the film gathers early momentum, Hudson is already hearing Oscar talk. She kept her reaction measured, saying she has been in the industry long enough to simply enjoy it when audiences respond well and to keep showing up wherever she is needed during awards season.
