The announcement remains on the royal website even after further honours were stripped
Buckingham Palace is continuing to display the statement confirming the removal of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s prince title, even as more of his honours have now been taken away. The original announcement, issued on 30 October, still sits on the homepage of the royal family’s official website.
Andrew, 65, lost the title of prince as King Charles moved to distance the family from him over his ties to Jeffrey Epstein. He had already stopped using the title Duke of York on 17 October. Reports on 1 December confirmed that he has now been stripped of his remaining honours as well.
A notice published in the London Gazette set out the latest change. The King directed that Andrew’s status as a Knight Companion of the Order of the Garter and as a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order be cancelled, and that his name be removed from both registers.
What has caught attention, though, is that the earlier palace statement removing his prince title remains prominently displayed. Commentators say that under normal circumstances such a notice would have been replaced promptly to avoid prolonging the embarrassment. Its continued presence suggests there is little appetite within the family or the institution to soften the public impact or move the matter quietly out of view.
