London official steps into new role with The King’s Trust International
Mete Coban MBE has announced that he has joined the board of The King’s Trust
International, sharing the news on Instagram alongside a photo with King
Charles III. He said he was honoured to take on the role, adding that the
organisation’s mission to expand opportunities for young people is key to
building stronger and fairer societies for the future.
Coban became London’s Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy in July 2024,
where he oversees the capital’s climate action plan. His work in the London
Borough of Hackney earned him wide recognition, particularly for leading a £61
million Green New Deal and creating the Community Energy Fund, which now
provides clean, community-owned power to dozens of local not-for-profit
groups.
He is also known for founding My Life My Say, a youth-led charity focused on
improving political engagement. Under his leadership, the Give an X voter
registration campaign helped bring more than 488,000 new voters onto the roll
ahead of the July 2024 General Election.
Coban received an MBE in the 2020 New Year Honours for his contributions to
young people and continues to serve as a Trustee at the London Marathon
Foundation and My Life My Say.
