Palace highlights Duchess of Edinburgh’s work as campaign against
gender-based violence concludes
The royal family has paid tribute to the Duchess of Edinburgh, sharing a
special post that highlights her long-standing work to support and empower
women and girls affected by conflict around the world.
In a message shared on the official royal Instagram account, the Palace
reflected on Sophie’s efforts as the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based
Violence came to an end on Human Rights Day. The post featured images from
several of her overseas visits over the past few years.
According to the statement, the Duchess has travelled extensively since 2019,
visiting countries including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Chad,
Kosovo, Lebanon, South Sudan and Sierra Leone. During these trips, she has met
women peacebuilders and survivors of conflict-related sexual violence,
listening to their experiences and amplifying their voices.
The caption noted that the Duchess champions the Women, Peace and Security
agenda and supports the Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict Initiative. It
stressed her focus on ensuring women play a central role in peacebuilding and
conflict resolution, while also pushing for a survivor-centred response.
Through this work, the royal family said, the Duchess of Edinburgh continues
to raise awareness, challenge taboos and draw attention to those who are often
denied their most basic rights.
