Monarch sends a Royal Mail post box to Antarctic researchers ahead of
Christmas
King Charles has fulfilled a thoughtful request from British scientists
working in Antarctica, shortly after sharing encouraging news about his
health.
On Saturday, the Royal Family’s official Instagram account revealed that the
King arranged for a Royal Mail post box to be delivered to the UK’s Rothera
Research Station. The gesture followed a request from station staff member
Kirsten Shaw, who asked for a replacement for their ageing, hand-painted box.
“A special delivery to Antarctica – just in time for Christmas!” the caption
read. The post explained that the Royal Household worked alongside Royal Mail
and the British Antarctic Survey to organise a new post box featuring the
King’s cypher.
The post box arrived aboard the RRS Sir David Attenborough, bringing a welcome
morale boost to the team stationed in one of the most remote places on Earth.
Staff at the base said the delivery reminded them of the importance of staying
connected with loved ones, even during demanding work schedules.
“For our team, who are working in such a remote place, it’s like having a
piece of home with us,” Shaw said.
The gesture comes days after King Charles shared a positive update on his
cancer treatment, describing the progress as “good news” and confirming that
effective intervention is expected to allow for reduced treatment in the new
year.
