Meghan Markle is facing fresh criticism over her continued distance from her father, Thomas Markle, as he recovers in hospital following emergency surgery.
Royal commentators say the Duchess of Sussex has made no effort to call or visit her estranged father, despite knowing where he is and how to contact him. According to reports, Meghan sent a letter that was hand delivered, but there are no plans for direct contact.
The Mail on Sunday has claimed the letter was delivered by a lawyer, with instructions that the exchange be recorded so the footage could be sent back to Meghan. Sources cited by royal expert Rob Shuter say the duchess has chosen not to engage personally with her father, who is recovering in the Philippines.
“She won’t even call him,” one insider said. “She knows where he is. She has the information. She’s chosen not to engage directly.”
Another source suggested Meghan’s public comments about family do not align with her private actions. “Meghan talks publicly about the holidays being about family, but for her that definition is very selective,” the insider claimed.
Author and royal critic Angela Levin has also weighed in, branding Meghan’s behaviour as hypocritical. “Meghan Markle always has to be in control,” Levin said, adding that it was her duty to see her father.
Thomas Markle has reportedly not been in contact with his daughter for seven years and has previously pleaded to see her “one more time before I die,” a remark that has intensified criticism of Meghan’s silence during his recovery.
