King Charles Welcomes Diplomatic Guests at Buckingham Palace

Iceland’s president meets the monarch during a busy London visit

Buckingham Palace saw a steady flow of international guests on Thursday as
King Charles carried out a round of formal greetings.

Iceland’s President Halla Tómasdóttir met the King during her first official
visit to the United Kingdom. Their handshake marked the start of a full London
schedule centred on leadership, sustainability, and economic development. The
royal family shared the moment on Instagram, noting that the President had
visited the King at the palace that afternoon.

Her London programme began on Wednesday and features public conversations and
strategic meetings that set out Iceland’s plans for the years ahead.

The day at the palace included more diplomatic courtesy calls. Ambassador
Dominique Paravicini arrived to present his credentials, joined by his wife
Fabienne and members of the embassy team. The King also welcomed the
Ambassador from the Republic of Lithuania.

Away from London, the Scottish weather caused fresh disruption. Balmoral
Castle had to close its gates early once again, with visitors asked to return
when the estate reopens at 11 a.m. tomorrow.
