The monarch is said to understand her hesitation but feels time is no longer on his side
The relationship between King Charles III and Meghan Markle has slipped back into the spotlight after royal watchers recently revisited an old image of Charles walking Meghan down the aisle at Clarence House.
Now, a source claims the King’s private feelings about the Sussexes staying away from the UK have started to emerge, with most of his frustration centred on Meghan’s continued reluctance to return. Rumours have long suggested that Meghan has little interest in coming back to Britain, even if security concerns were fully resolved.
Harry, by contrast, has previously taken legal action against the Home Office in an effort to reinstate taxpayer funded protection. But according to the source, Charles’s focus is far less about legal battles and far more about family.
Described as deeply sentimental, the King is said to be especially keen to spend time with his youngest grandchildren. His health concerns and age are part of that urgency, with the source telling Closer that Charles knows he “can’t wait forever”.
The same source says Charles understands Meghan’s reasons for hesitating to bring the children to the UK and is not dismissive of her concerns. Still, he reportedly feels the situation has dragged on for too long and believes that if she truly wanted it to happen, it already would have.
While Harry is said to be too protective to openly blame Meghan for the lack of visits, those close to the situation believe she is the one making the final decisions. Charles and Harry are not in constant contact, but they do speak. During those conversations, the King has allegedly encouraged his son to take a firmer stance and press for a compromise.
At this stage of his life, the source says, Charles wants peace more than anything and some sense of normal family life. Despite everything, his love for Harry has not changed, even after years of strain.
Their first meeting after nearly 19 months of public silence was reportedly brief, but it left a strong emotional impression on the King. Those close to him say he still chooses to see the good in his son, viewing Harry as someone who made mistakes but is far from beyond forgiveness.
