Meghan Markle Called Out for ‘Archaic’ Comment About Royals

Duchess accused of contradicting herself in latest interview

Meghan Markle has sparked a new wave of criticism after remarks about royal traditions, just as it seemed ties between the Sussexes were beginning to improve.

Fresh off the release of season two of With Love, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex appeared on Bloomberg’s The Circuit with Emily Chang. During the wide-ranging interview, she brought up an old tradition from Queen Elizabeth’s time, but her comments quickly raised eyebrows.

Royal experts argue Meghan’s story clashes with her past statements. Commentator Kinsey Schofield told Fox News Digital that her anecdote about pantyhose “was ludicrous,” adding that her “constant contradictions are jarring.” Meghan had quipped, “I hadn’t seen pantyhose since movies in the ’80s when they came in the little egg,” a remark Schofield described as “inauthentic.”

She pointed out that Meghan once praised Spanx founder Sara Blakely on her Confessions of a Female Founder podcast, making her dismissal of tights seem inconsistent. Schofield also noted the irony of labelling pantyhose “archaic” while fronting a series that shows her leaning into a traditional homemaker role.

The commentator went further, criticising Meghan’s repeated claims of being silenced during her time as a royal. “The royal family gave Meghan the platform she has today,” Schofield said. “She would not have the opportunities she has in 2025 if it weren’t for her proximity to the British royal family. It would be nice to hear her acknowledge that.”
