Meghan Markle’s father Thomas faces urgent medical crisis

Eighty-one year old undergoes major surgery after sudden health emergency

Thomas Markle has had his left leg amputated below the knee after a blood clot cut off circulation, according to the Daily Mail. The 81 year old spent three hours in surgery on Wednesday after doctors confirmed the limb could not be saved.

He is expected to have another procedure to address a separate clot in his thigh. His son Thomas Jr said the situation changed quickly and that doctors made it clear the operation had to happen immediately. He praised his father’s courage and said he took him to hospital as soon as he noticed the sudden change in his condition.

Thomas, a retired lighting director, had been living in Cebu in the Philippines. He was taken by ambulance to a larger hospital where doctors began treatment right away.

Thomas Jr said the priority was preventing infection and stabilising his father. Medical staff have told the family that the next few days will be important for his recovery.

Thomas Markle has been estranged from his daughter Meghan Markle since her wedding to Harry in 2018. He has never met their children.
