Sources say the Duke of York’s own actions—not his nephew—led to his final
royal demotion.
Prince William’s involvement in Prince Andrew’s recent demotion has come under
scrutiny after Buckingham Palace denied claims that the Prince of Wales was
the driving force behind his uncle’s downfall.
Earlier reports suggested that William had pushed for action against the
disgraced Duke, who has now given up his remaining royal titles and honours.
The move marked a historic moment for the monarchy as King Charles finally
acted after years of public controversy surrounding his brother.
According to palace insiders, Charles had been reluctant to make such a
drastic decision, but a “tipping point” was reached. In a statement issued by
Buckingham Palace, Andrew announced he would no longer use his royal titles or
honours, explaining that the decision had been made “in discussion with The
King, and my immediate and wider family.” The phrasing hinted at William’s
involvement, though his name was not mentioned directly.
You’re right Prince William is not mentioned in statement but it’s confirmed that he was consulted. https://t.co/WafBxN07xQ

Royal historian Andrew Lownie, author of an unauthorised biography of Andrew
and Sarah Ferguson, told the BBC that the Duke of York was not the one to
initiate the change. “If Andrew had really considered the family’s reputation,
he would have stepped back years ago,” Lownie said. He added that both William
and the government had been pressing the King to act, with concerns that
Andrew’s ongoing controversies were overshadowing the Royal Family’s work.
Still, many observers argue that while William may have played a role,
Andrew’s own conduct and refusal to accept responsibility were the true causes
of his downfall. As one insider put it, the Duke’s arrogance—not his nephew’s
influence—ultimately brought him to this point.
