Danish royals announce four-day cruise as Charles and Camilla keep
Balmoral tradition
While King Charles and Queen Camilla are spending their summer break at
Balmoral Castle in Scotland, Denmark’s royal family has revealed special plans
of their own.
The Danish Royal House confirmed that King Frederik and Queen Mary will set
sail later this month for a four-day summer cruise aboard the royal ship
Dannebrog.
“The King and Queen will conduct a late summer tour on 25-28 August,” the
palace announced. “The Dannebrog tour will begin on 25 August in Frederikshavn
Municipality, followed by visits to Thisted on 26 August and Læsø on 27
August. This year’s summer tour will conclude with a visit to Samsø on 28
August.”
The journey continues a long-standing royal tradition of Dannebrog voyages,
which dates back to Christian X, Frederik IX and, most recently, Queen
Margrethe, who stepped down from the throne in 2024.
To round off the tour, King Frederik and Queen Mary will host a reception for
invited guests on the ship at Kolby Kås Harbour following their final stop in
Samsø.
Much like the British royals’ cherished summer gathering at Balmoral,
Denmark’s monarchs are keeping their own traditions alive while stepping into
a new royal era.
