Prince Harry and Meghan criticised over use of children in social media content

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing renewed criticism after a royal commentator accused them of involving their children in online content despite years of warning about the risks of social media.

Speaking on Daily Mail Voices, royal commentator Richard Eden argued that the couple’s recent online activity clashes with their long-standing stance on privacy. He claimed the Sussexes should stop using glimpses of their family life to drive engagement, particularly when it benefits Meghan’s lifestyle brand, As Ever.

Eden pointed out that Harry and Meghan have repeatedly spoken about the dangers of social media for children, yet their own approach appears inconsistent since Meghan returned to Instagram to promote her business. While the children’s faces are not shown, photos and short videos featuring them have been shared alongside brand-related posts.

“To me it is hypocritical,” Eden said in the video. “Either they shun social media or they use it. They can’t criticise it on one hand and then use it to show videos of their young children.”

Prince Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties in 2020 and moved to California, where they now live with their children. Since leaving royal life, the couple have frequently spoken about the intense media pressure Harry experienced growing up and their determination to protect their own family from similar scrutiny.

The latest criticism highlights the ongoing tension between the Sussexes’ public warnings about online exposure and their evolving use of social platforms to support personal and commercial projects.
