Duke’s return mixes remembrance with a hint of renewal
After nearly 20 months apart, Prince Harry reunited with King Charles at
Clarence House this afternoon. The moment carried emotional weight, arriving
against a backdrop of past tensions and cautious steps toward reconciliation.
Just hours earlier, Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh had been at Clarence House
but left shortly before Harry’s arrival, meaning the Duke missed seeing his
aunt by mere minutes.

This was the first time Harry and the King had seen each other in person since
February 2024, shortly after Charles revealed his cancer diagnosis. The
private meeting underscored how much has changed since then, both personally
and within the wider royal family.
Harry’s visit comes at a symbolic time. Earlier in the week, he quietly paid
tribute to his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II by visiting her grave on
the third anniversary of her death, before attending the WellChild Awards.
Both moments highlighted his enduring connection to the UK and his hope,
shared by many observers, for eventual healing within the family.
In recent months, communications between Harry’s team and palace aides have
shown signs of thawing. Aides from both sides reportedly held a meeting in
July, seen as an early step in paving the way for this long-awaited reunion.
His trip also coincided with his engagement at the Centre for Blast Injury
Studies at Imperial College London, adding a sense of purpose to his return.
