Prince Harry Risks Peace Talks with King Charles After Sending New Security Letter

The Duke of Sussex’s latest appeal to UK officials raises concerns about his strained relationship with the royal family.

Prince Harry’s renewed push for official security in the UK is reportedly threatening to undo his fragile progress toward reconciliation with King Charles.

The Duke of Sussex recently sent a letter to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, asking for a new risk assessment after losing his legal challenge over police protection. His taxpayer-funded security was withdrawn when he stepped back from royal duties in 2020.

According to The Times, Harry acknowledged that his request might not be the top priority for the new Home Secretary but insisted that it was long overdue. “We have had the can kicked down the road for quite a while now, but all he’s asking is for Ravec to abide by its own rules, which state that a risk management board review should be conducted each year. The last one for the Duke was in 2019,” a source told the outlet.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams described Harry’s latest move as “unpredictable” and cautioned that it could harm his efforts to repair relations with his father. Speaking to Express.co.uk, he said, “He wants himself and his family to be on a special list of protected persons, but it would not be proper for the monarch to intervene in this issue.”

Fitzwilliams added, “He may get the review he wants. However, his behaviour bodes ill for his hopes of reconciliation with his father.”
