A lighthearted lip-sync from Harry on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has
quickly taken off online, winning over viewers across America. The clip,
filmed as a playful nod to a viral moment from The Great British Bake Off,
shows the Duke of Sussex joining Stephen Colbert in a short skit that drew
thousands of enthusiastic reactions.
British tabloids were quick to label the video cringeworthy and claimed it
reflected poorly on Harry and Meghan Markle. Those reactions didn’t match the
tone in the United States, where the youngest son of King Charles III has
lived with his family since 2020. American viewers flooded the comments with
praise, calling him witty and refreshingly down to earth. One user wrote, “He
may be a prince but I see two kings,” while another joked that the Bake Off
social team would be waking up to “a million notifications.” A third added,
“Harry is the coolest royal ever. More of this please.”
Not everyone was impressed. PR expert Mark Borkowski described the humour as
“painful” and argued that the novelty of a British prince in America faded
long ago. He said the jokes fall flat because Harry hasn’t convinced audiences
he has moved past his own privilege.
Despite the criticism at home, several US commentators feel the Duke of Sussex
remains more popular than many Hollywood names. For them, the viral moment
shows he can still surprise people and charm viewers with an unexpected sense
