The Prince and Princess of Wales bring their children to Scotland for a
family break
William and Catherine are expected to join King Charles at his Highland
retreat this month, along with their children. The family will spend time at
Balmoral, the historic royal residence in Aberdeenshire that has long been a
place of rest and tradition for the monarchy.
For William, the visit carries deep personal meaning. As a boy, he enjoyed
long summers at Balmoral with his late mother, Princess Diana, and his brother
Harry. The future king has often spoken fondly of those holidays, filled with
walks in the fresh air, swimming in lochs, and barbecues led by his
grandfather. Now, his own children are beginning to form their own memories
there.
The King and Queen have already arrived in Scotland after a demanding year of
engagements at home and abroad. Balmoral, with its 53,000 acres of forest,
farmland and moor, has been described by family members as one of the most
beautiful places on earth. It was also the late Queen Elizabeth IIβs most
treasured residence, where she spent her final weeks in 2022.
This annual tradition, first embraced by Queen Victoria and carried on by the
late Queen, continues to draw together different generations of the family.
William, Catherine, and their children are expected to enjoy the same open
spaces and pursuits that have long made Balmoral a special sanctuary for the
royals.
