Prince William and Catherine’s Careful Planning for George Comes Into Focus

Royal expert says the Prince and Princess of Wales are quietly preparing their son for future responsibility

2025 marked a noticeable shift in how often Prince George was seen in public, according to royal observers. A series of high-profile appearances sparked fresh discussion about how Prince William and Catherine are gradually introducing their eldest child to royal life.

Traditionally, the Prince and Princess of Wales have been cautious about public exposure, choosing to limit their children’s appearances so they can grow up with a sense of normality and privacy. This year, however, George attended several significant events, a change that one expert believes is very deliberate.

Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams says the approach reflects long-term planning rather than a sudden shift. Speaking to the Daily Mail, he explained that William and Catherine have always put privacy first, but that this naturally evolves as George gets older.

According to Fitzwilliams, George is now being included in occasions that carry meaning, particularly those connected to the armed forces and national remembrance. He sees this as part of a careful effort to familiarise him with the responsibilities he will one day carry, given his place in the line of succession.

One moment that stood out was George’s appearance at a tea party for Second World War veterans marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day. Fitzwilliams believes this was no coincidence, noting that military service has long been central to the monarchy. He suggests that, behind closed doors, George is already being taught about this tradition and its importance.

Alongside VE Day commemorations, George also attended the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall and took part in a visit to a homeless charity. Together, these appearances point to a steady, measured introduction to public duty rather than a rush into the spotlight.

For now, William and Catherine appear intent on keeping the balance. They are expanding George’s public role slowly, while still protecting his childhood, and shaping his understanding of service long before the weight of the crown truly comes into view.
