Possible Princess Diana documentary sparks new royal tensions
Prince William is said to be furious over Harry and Meghan’s latest plans with Netflix, with insiders claiming the couple may be considering a documentary about Princess Diana.
The Sussexes’ deal with the streaming giant is seen as vital for their future in the US, but talk of a Diana project has raised fears of deeper divisions within the royal family.
According to sources, the Prince of Wales was “livid” after learning of the idea. “William’s livid and he’s already instructed his team to look into options on how to stop this madness,” one palace insider told New Idea.
The reported project is among several being considered under the Sussexes’ new first-look agreement with Netflix. For William, the move feels like a broken promise. Years ago, he and Harry vowed never to profit from their mother’s memory—a pledge that may not have been formal but still held meaning for the future king.
The source added that William suspects Meghan is behind the idea. “Her and Netflix selling the idea to his little brother, well, Harry had no chance. William’s disappointed he’s caved, but not surprised.”
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams warned that such a programme could further damage Harry’s standing with his family. “If the proposed documentary featured anything controversial, it would gravely endanger the reconciliation Harry has said he wants with his family, although it would undoubtedly draw the audience Netflix wants,” he told the Daily Express.
He also noted the sensitivities given that Queen Camilla—whom Diana once regarded as a rival—is now consort. “This [documentary], if it happens, could restart conflict,” Fitzwilliams cautioned.
