King Charles is said to be uneasy with William’s growing focus on family life
Prince William is pushing ahead with plans to modernise the monarchy at a time when King Charles is dealing with cancer treatment and lingering family scandals. According to royal commentator Hilary Fordwich, the Prince of Wales is the one most intent on reshaping the institution for the future.
Fordwich told Fox News Digital that much of William’s work happens out of sight, yet it is central to how the monarchy will present itself in the years ahead. She said this behind-the-scenes effort is key to keeping the royal family relevant.
She added that King Charles has taken some offence to William’s strong focus on family life. The king would reportedly prefer to see his heir concentrating more on building a broader international profile.
Fordwich also highlighted Catherine’s growing importance. With her high public approval and steady presence, she is expected to become even more influential as their children grow. Her relationship with the king has strengthened as both navigate their own health challenges.
Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams echoed this view, noting that William, Catherine and their children represent the future of the monarchy. He also pointed to William’s role in difficult family decisions. William was a firm voice in the choices King Charles made regarding Prince Andrew, including the removal of his titles and the move from Royal Lodge.
