Royal visit continues King Charles’s message despite heavy rain
Princess Anne stayed on course in Singapore as she carried forward King
Charles’s message during a short but meaningful visit with her husband, Vice
Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence. The 75-year-old had just completed a four-day
tour of Australia before travelling straight to Asia for a series of
engagements aimed at strengthening ties between the United Kingdom and
Singapore.
The royal couple arrived on Wednesday and went directly to the Kranji War
Cemetery for a memorial service. The weather quickly shifted from dull skies
to steady rain, yet Anne managed to complete the programme without delay. As
president of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, she laid a wreath in
honour of Singaporean and British veterans, followed by a minute of silence.
The service was kept brief due to the conditions.
Anne then visited the MS Spey, which has been deployed to the Indo-Pacific
since 2021. A red carpet was prepared for her arrival as she viewed ongoing
maintenance work and recognised Warrant Officer James Burton and Warrant
Officer Jason Proctor for their service.
Her two-day visit will also include events marking six decades of diplomatic
relations between the two nations.
