Former royal aide says the King will understand her decision, even if it is a sad one
Princess Beatrice’s plans for Christmas could leave her uncle, King Charles III, quietly disappointed, according to a former royal aide.
The King had reportedly invited Beatrice and her sister to join the wider family for the festive season at Sandringham. However, the sisters were said to be caught between that official invitation and spending time with their parents, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson.
Rather than choosing sides, Beatrice is reported to have opted out altogether. According to the Daily Express, she plans to spend Christmas abroad on a skiing trip with her husband and children.
Former royal butler Grant Harrold said the decision would naturally be disappointing for the King, who is known to be very fond of his niece. He explained that Charles would have liked to spend time with her, particularly after what has been a challenging period for the family.
That said, Harrold stressed that the King understands the difficult position Beatrice has been placed in due to events surrounding her father, despite her having no involvement. He added that Charles would support her choice and simply want her to do what feels right for her.
Harrold also suggested the distance would not affect their relationship. He believes Beatrice will still make time to call home from the mountains and stay in touch on Christmas Day.
She is very close to her uncle, he said, and there is little doubt they will speak to wish each other a happy Christmas, even if they are not together in person.
