Road closures and forced relocations spark questions over royal use of public land
A recent report claims that William and Catherine have frustrated neighbours living near their new Windsor home, Forest Lodge. According to OK! Magazine, the couple authorised road closures and restricted access to a nearby Christmas tree farm, leaving locals with longer routes.
Residents are also said to be unhappy that two families were moved from their homes within Windsor Great Park before the couple settled in. Critics argue the changes were unnecessary and placed an unfair burden on the community.
Graham Smith, an anti-monarchist campaigner, told Newsweek that the land and roads involved are public and should not have been closed. He said the Christmas tree issue might appear minor, but it reflects a wider problem. In his view, William had no authority to limit public access or to displace families for his own convenience.
Smith added that the situation shows an unreasonable use of privilege. He described it as an example of a royal taking advantage of public resources while disregarding the people who live nearby.
